Pierina Lucia Muscatello

February 8, 1931 - February 2, 2020

Pierina Lucia Muscatello, 88, formerly of Cape May and more recently of Danvers, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 2, 2020 at the New England Homes for the Deaf with her loving and devoted husband, Mario, by her side. Pierina is dearly missed and forever loved by her adoring husband, Mario Muscatello, her devoted daughter, Pierina Hari (Muscatello), her granddaughter, Maya Hari, her son-in-law, Vijay Hari, and her sister Julia Wright. Pierina was predeceased by her brothers Nicolo and Antonio DeFedericis, and sister Angelina Adgie (DeFedericis). Pierina was born to the late Antonio and Lucia DeFedericis on February 8, 1931 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and grew up in Philly’s close-knit, Our Lady of Angels, 49th Street Italian neighborhood. Pierina married Mario Muscatello on November 21, 1970 and resided with him in Cape May, New Jersey for nearly 40 years. Pierina was a strong woman who overcame multiple physical obstacles and illnesses. She persevered through it all without complaint. Her inability to hear and understand the conversations transpiring in front of her never prevented her from socializing. She was friendly and welcomed everyone with her kind, genuine smile. Her garden brought her great joy. She spent countless hours growing tomatoes, roses, succulents, marigolds, etc. and could nurture any lifeless stem into a hearty, voluminous plant. When she wasn’t tending to her garden, you could find her at the kitchen table with her cats, flipping through gossip magazines to see the latest photos of her favorite celebrities. Pierina loved riding her bicycle around Cape May and spending long summer days on the beach with her daughter, Pierina. She had a life-long love affair with scallops & linguini, blush wine, and rum raisin ice cream. Pierina was a coffee trailblazer who enjoyed flavored coffees long before Starbucks came along. Add some Amaretto to your coffee this week in Pierina’s honor. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 15th at 12 noon in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, 525 Washington St., Cape May. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in honor of Pierina Muscatello to the New England Homes for the Deaf, located in Danvers, Massachusetts.
