All are invited to attend as we celebrate Lee's life. PARKING is available at Spilker Funeral Home. A tribute written with love by Lee's sister, Jill Brown. Vivian Lee (Sowers) Shupert Vivian Lee (Sowers) Shupert, known to many as Lee, passed with grace and contentment from her home in this world to His Home in the next, on the evening of February 7, 2022. Friends and family will remember her as a rare, faith filled and dignified Lady of Cape May Point. Lee lived each moment, until her very last, in hope of being a real lady, a good example to her loved ones, and worthy of Christ’s Promise of eternal life. Her daughter, Cindy and sisters, Cheri and Jill, are grateful for the time Lee gave them to be together, with God’s help, until she was taken. Here’s to Lee! We celebrate her. Born in Norristown, PA, Lee’s early life was lived with her parents and paternal grandparents in West Conshohocken, PA. She began “each day with a smile and a prayer” and reminded us to do the same. Each morning Lee’s PopPop would start the day, calling, ““Leeander”! Say your prayers before your feet hit the floor!”. PopPop’s Prayer, carved on her heart as a child, was recited silently each day of her life, and will be shared during her celebration of life this Spring. Her joy in all things sacred, true, beautiful and proper was woven into her love of life. Those who knew her will recall her knitting with a circle of friends, walking along the beach or through “The Point”, enjoying Library lunch and learn, reveling in a sunset or in community musical offerings, sharing what she had learned at Garden Club, and explaining the finer points of the Victorian silver table setting! Lee was an active member of many organizations, and if the friendships she formed are any measure, it could be said that she was an honorary member of any hospitality committee! When at home, if not in the outside shower (April until November!), on her knees in the garden, or seated by her fireplace, she’d be caught reading or watching the birds and butterflies from her sun porch. Lee was an active worshipper and servant of her Savior, through Church of the Advent, Cape May, NJ and Saint Peter’s by the Sea, Cape May Point, NJ. Before retiring to Cape May Point, she was an active member of Saint Paul’s Lutheran Church in Doylestown, PA. Lee mastered life as a home maker, relocating across the U.S.A as a helpmate to her husband Bill. Long before her own late in life career, she loved being a homemaker, honing the lost art of pressing linens (sheets as well as her husband’s boxers!) She held etiquette, “Miss Manners” and Mr. Clean in high regard! Lee was then challenged and thrilled by a career door that was opened to her at the Cape May County Office of Aging in her later years. Her colleagues are her friends. They knew her as “V” or Vivian, a treasure of a different era, younger than her age, happy to struggle with technology if it allowed her to serve the Volunteers and isolated Seniors of Cape May County. They love her, and grew to love us, her family. Lee is predeceased by her parents, “Bud” and Ethel Sowers…as their first born, she undoubtedly softened their parenting style for her younger sisters! Lee grieved the death of her husband, “Bill” and their youngest daughter Heather Lynn (Shupert) Benson, with grace and poise. Always humble and self-deprecating, Lee had difficulty accepting their praise of her accomplishments. We remember Bill beaming, with his broad, dimpled smile; “Look at all that she has accomplished! Look at all she has achieved, with a high school diploma and determination!” To see Bill’s enduring love, you need only see the insightful, knowing, duplicate dimpled smile of their grandson, Ryan. Until her passing, Lee glowed at the sound of Ryan’s name. Lee lived every moment God gave her with grace and joy. She did not carry burdens or grudges, only joy in God’s love for all, in hope they turned to Him. She is now enjoying sunset from the other side; she sees the flowers we plant from the other side of the garden gate. We know she has made friends of the strangers she is now walking with. She is being held closer then humanly possible by those we miss. We remember, for her, to enjoy each moment we are given…and to “say (our) prayers before (our) feet hit the floor.” Lee requested that her celebration of life at Church of the Advent, Cape May, NJ be titled; “Oh, What a Life!”. Until a date is determined and we meet there, please keep her daughter, Cindy, son in law, Don, and grandson, Ryan (Campbell) and son in law David (Benson) in prayer. In lieu of flowers (due to church limitations) please consider donations to Church of the Advent, Cape May, NJ; Saint Peter’s by the Sea, Cape May Point, NJ and the Cape May Community Food Closet, as these ministries served in ways that Lee held dear. --- The following is Lee's obituary as it appeared in the newspaper. SHUPERT (nee Sowers), Vivian “Lee” – 79, of Cape May Point and formerly of Doylestown, PA passed away peacefully in the comfort of her home with her family at her side on Monday, February 7, 2022. Lee worked for the Cape May County Department of Aging and retired as the RSVP Director. She was a longtime member of both the Church of the Advent, Cape May and St. Peter’s-By-The-Sea, Cape May Point where she was very active and held various positions. Lee enjoyed many things in her life, to name a few: her gardens, birds, monarch butterflies and relaxing on the beach. She is predeceased by her husband, William Ingram Shupert and her daughter, Heather Shupert Benson. Lee is dearly missed and forever loved by her family which includes her daughter, Cynthia (and Donald) Campbell; grandson, Ryan Campbell; sisters, Cheryl McGranahan (nee Sowers) and Jill (nee Sowers) and her husband, Warren Brown; as well as her nieces and nephews. A celebration of Lee’s life will be announced at a later date, anticipated Spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to St. Peter’s-By-The-Sea Episcopal Church, PO Box 261, Cape May Point, NJ 08212.
