Kim Shields

October 20, 1964 - November 3, 2021

Written by Kim's daughter, Courtney McGann Sedlak On the beautiful fall morning of November 3, 2021 our beloved Kimberley Grace Shields McGann was welcomed to Heaven at dawn. We have no doubt she left this world as the sun was rising to remind us of the warm, radiant, bright light she was to all. Kim had the gift of making others feel loved, accepted, and seen. Her ever present smile was contagious. Her hugs were a genuine gift. Her advice was heartfelt and sincere. Her ability to listen and not judge was the reason so many gravitated towards her. Kim was the example of someone who would give you the shirt off her back. In true Kim fashion she persevered as long as she could for the sake of others and never let anyone know that her cancer had taken over. She left us with a lasting reminder of her strength and courage. We find peace in knowing after 24 years she is reunited with the love of her life, Tom. Kim was born and raised in Cape May, NJ to Terry and Beverly Shields. Kim cherished her parents and was forever grateful for their love and support. She was the eldest sister to Kelly (Tom) Shields Keywood and Shari Shields Tomlin. She was a 1983 graduate of Lower Cape May Regional. It was there that she met the love of her life Tom McGann. Kim and Tom were married for nearly 11 years before Tom was called home to heaven in 1997 after an 8-year battle with brain cancer. Kim and Tom’s greatest accomplishment was their two beautiful children, Courtney McGann Sedlak and Chaz McGann. She was a loving mother-in-law to David Sedlak, Jr. and proud grandmother to Lachlyn Grace, Avery Whitney, and Rowan Everly Sedlak. Kim lived for her children and grandchildren. She was also a loving aunt and “second mom” to her three nephews, Andrew (Haley) McFadden, Bryan McFadden and Ren Tomlin. Kim was also a mom to all who walked through her door. Kim cherished her friendships and loved to entertain. She was the life of the party and always made you feel welcomed. In addition to the many roles in her life she was a loving sister-in-law, daughter-in-law, aunt to many nieces and nephews and soon to be great aunt. Kim’s legacy lives on through all who loved her. We will never forget the way Kim made us feel. To celebrate Kim’s life, family and friends will gather on Friday (Nov. 12th) from 4pm until 8pm in Cape May’s Convention Hall, 714 Beach Ave., Cape May. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested through “In Memory Of” online at www.inmemof.org/kim-shields to benefit Kim’s grandchildren’s education and future life events. Additional note from the family: Hey family and friends! I wanted to let everyone know the dress code for my mom’s celebration of life is casual. Wear bright colors or whatever you feel comfortable in. Her favorite color was purple and bonus points for flip flops - because my mom wore them year round. We’re looking forward to celebrating her life and remembering the good times!💜💜 please spread the word 💜💜
