Karen McPherson Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Karen S. McPherson (nee Thomson) - 74, formerly residing in Woolrich, PA passed away peacefully in the Mt. Nittany Medical Center, State College, PA on October 13, 2021. She was born in Havertown PA, March 31, 1947, spent her childhood summers in Cape May, NJ, and became a full-time resident upon graduation from Haverford H.S. She met her husband of 42 wonderful years, Charles Reeves McPherson Sr. They were married on April 6, 1968. Charles McPherson preceded her in death on November 6, 2010. Karen was a devoted Christian; she loved The Lord. She brought her husband and two daughters to Christ in 1980. Karen had earned her Master’s Degree in History from Thomas Edison State University. History was one of her many passions, she was a founding member of the now Historic Preservation Commission of Cape May. She also helped orchestrate the 1976 Bicentennial festivities and even traced the original route from Cape May Bandstand to Philadelphia City Hall in a wooden stage coach. Karen was a docent for the Cape May County Museum and believed strongly in preserving the unique local history her husband and daughters were so much a part of. Along with her faith and her family her heart and soul was her art. She began art at a very young age which led her to become a professional artist that worked in many mediums such as watercolor, oils and jewelry. In addition to her many other talents, she owned Seafarer Antiques (doing estate appraisals); the Village Stitchery Shoppe where she designed counted cross stitch graphs, held sewing classes and was an accomplished seamstress. Karen moved to Woolrich, PA with her husband Charles after his retirement in 2001 and was involved in the community’s local churches and choral groups as well as Clinton County Art Council and Historic Society. She was the most loving, caring and protective mother. She took her role as mother and later grandmother seriously, and compassionately always putting her family first. She will truly be missed! Survivors include her daughters, Laura E. McPherson of West Cape May, NJ, and Stephanie N. McPherson of Port Charlotte, FL; grandchildren, Julia Grossman, and Anastasia McPherson-Ohrenich of West Cape May. Karen will be sadly missed but we can take comfort that she is finally reunited with her one true love Charles “Butch.” Memorial Services for Karen are scheduled for Friday (April 22nd) at 11am in the Spilker Funeral Home, 815 Washington St., Cape May.
