Judy Reyes Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Reyes, Judy E. (nee Ballard)- 69 of West Cape May, NJ, passed away June 20, 2022. Judy was born on December 10, 1952 to William and Naomi (nee Bell) Ballard. Judy’s upbringing was primarily in Brooklyn, NY; however, she spent each summer in West Cape May visiting her godparents John and Hattie McIntyre. In the 1970’s Judy and her mother moved to Manhattan and she received her degree from Baruch College. She held many jobs; yet, her work as a Bookkeeper at the New York City Parks Department would forever change her life. The Parks Department is where she would be introduced to her future husband Raimundo “Ray” Reyes, by their mutual friend Rodney Simmons. Rodney always said, “I always knew Judy and Ray would be a good match, and they were!” In 1981, Judy married Ray and together they raised her beloved son, Raimundo “Ray” Reyes. Judy and her family lived in Harlem, NY, West Cape May, NJ, Los Angeles, CA and Sicklerville, NJ before returning to ‘ole’ West Cape May in 2005. Her return to West Cape May, re-established old relationships, investments in the community and ignited a new career path. Judy became the Superintendent’s Assistant at the Woodbine Elementary School from where she retired in 2015. Judy enjoyed cooking, spending time with her family and friends, traveling, trivia night at “the V”, science fiction movies and books with Star Trek being her favorite. Judy was preceded in death by her husband Ray (2013). She is survived by her son, Ray; stepson Tutankhamen; brothers, Edward and William IV (Carolyn); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Judy will be deeply missed and never forgotten by all those whose lives she touched and inspired. Judy’s memorial ceremony will be held on Thursday, June 30th, 2022, at 12 noon in the Macedonia Baptist Church, 630 Lafayette Street, Cape May, NJ.
