Joseph T. Ruyak, Jr. – Born June 30th 1954 in Pottstown, PA and passed away on July 4, 2021 at the age of 67 years old. Joe was the son of the late Joseph T. Ruyak, Sr. and Joanne (Kerlin) Ruyak. As a child and a teenager, Joe lived on a large country property in Douglassville, PA. He enjoyed guitar lessons, swimming, oil painting and reading. But he soon gravitated to the world of rock music and motorcycles. He sang and played the guitar in several local rock bands. He graduated from Daniel Boone High School, Birdsboro, PA where he was the Junior and Senior Class President. Joe attended Penn State University and met his future wife Kathy (Haines) Ruyak. They both graduated with degrees in Speech and Communications. Joe’s rock and roll entrepreneurial spirit was in everything he did and his love of music led him to radio sales in the Philadelphia market where he went on to set records of his own as account executive, national sales manager and station manager for over two and a half decades. A chance encounter with a patient recruitment project manager, led Joe to a new career. Taking the 25 years of advertising and marketing skills he had acquired in the radio business, Joe started RX Media consulting for pharmaceutical clinical study patient recruitment. For over a dozen years, Joe helped pharmaceutical companies to successfully recruit patients for complex clinical studies, including oncology and rare disease clinical trials. The last stop on Joe’s entrepreneurial journey was real estate. Joe obtained his NJ real estate license and went to work for Long & Foster Avalon. Having a knack for matching his passions to business, selling real estate at the New Jersey shore was Joe’s dream job. He loved living by the coast, he loved selling houses, he loved his colleagues, and most of all he loved working with his clients with whom he would develop a strong personal connection. Joe was the consummate salesman. Joe and Kathy and their son, Curran, shared a beautiful home in Villanova for over 30 years where they graciously entertained their friends and family. Joe excelled at gourmet cooking and traveled to various shops along the Main Line to acquire his ingredients. Everyone was thrilled to receive an invitation to one of their dinner parties or pool parties. Joe and Kathy loved landscaping and his family made an annual visit to plant annuals and perennials at their property. Joe and Kathy traveled extensively through the United States. They were always attracted to coastal settings: the California Coast, Key West, Cape Cod and the Maine Coast. So, eventually, over 10 years ago they decided to make their second home in Cape May. We will forever miss his radiant smile, his extravagant imagination, and his wild sense of humor. Joe was a kind and generous man and we will always love him. Joe is also survived by his mother Joanne Ruyak, his brother Rev. Mark Ruyak, brothers-in-law Hon. Charles Haines, Stephen Haines (Ruth), Michael Haines and partner Kevin McBride and sister-in-law Marianne Haines, as well as nieces Brooke Leifer (Alex), Carly Papenberg (Matthew), nephew Jack DeRose (Alexandria), three grandnieces, his Aunt Patricia Kerlin, cousins Lorelei Brewer (Frank) and Jeffrey Kerlin (Joanna), and his son’s friends whom he welcomed into his home like his own. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph T. Ruyak, Sr. Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation at St. David’s Episcopal Church, 763 South Valley Forge Road, Wayne, PA 19087 on July 14, from 10:00-10:45 followed by a celebration of his life ceremony at 11:00. Interment is private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Joe’s memory to Project HOME or MANNA.
