Ginny Matthews

September 29, 1935 - February 19, 2016

MATTHEWS (nee Bell), Virginia “Aunt Ginny” – 80 years, lifelong Cape May resident, passed away peacefully on Friday evening, February 19, 2016. Aunt Ginny, as she was known to so many, graduated from Cape May High School in 1953. A hard worker during her working years, she always kept busy in many of the well-known restaurant kitchens of Cape May, including Oyster Bay, Congress Hall, The Winchester and the Christian Admiral where she held the position of head chef. Aunt Ginny was a woman of faith and for many years she attended the Franklin Street U.M. Church, Cape May; more recently she was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church, Cape May. She is predeceased by her mother, Allien Bell; father, Leon Bell; husband, Joseph Howard Matthews (1995); two brothers, Lionel and Allen Bell. Aunt Ginny is dearly missed by her loving family which includes her sister, Gladys Rex; brothers, William T. Bell and Charles Carter; a host of nieces, nephews, “grands,” cousins, extended family and dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (Feb. 27th) at 11am in the Macedonia Baptist Church, 630 Lafayette St., Cape May where there will be a viewing from 10am – 10:45am. Interment will follow in Mt. Moriah Cem., Lower Twp. PARKING is available in the ACME parking lot. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to the Macedonia Baptist Church Building Fund, PO Box 2385, Cape May, NJ 08204.
