George Wilson “Chief” “Pop-Pop” - 86, passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife, Beverly by his side on June 13, 2018. Born in Lower Merion, PA on July 31, 1931, he was one of nine children. He attended Upper Darby High School. George was a talented athlete as he both wrestled and played football. He graduated from UDHS in 1951. He would continue his passion for sports as a high school wrestling coach. He was head of the Data Processing Dept. at Food Fair Company for 25 years before retiring and becoming a PA Revenue Sales Tax Auditor. George served honorably and proudly in the US Navy and US Naval Reserve with 40 years of military service. He retired as a Chief Petty Officer. “Chief” Wilson spent his reserve time as a parachute rigger. His motto was “We guarantee to let you down!” In 1955 he married Mary Killion, and together they raised a daughter, Eileen and two sons George and Thomas. He also was a devoted caregiver to his wife, and the rock of the family. Mary Wilson passed in 2001. He married Beverly Greenspan in 2003. They met at the Coast Guard Exchange in Cape May, NJ. Together they took a trip to California to visit family and friends. Captured by the beauty and climate of Palm Springs, they decided it was the perfect place to call home. George loved the desert, the warm sunshine and the mountains. He enjoyed golfing and many activities in the area. George and Beverly traveled the world extensively. Summers they went to the Jersey Shore to be with family and friends and enjoy the beach. He loved spending time with his family. George was loved by everyone and no one was a stranger. Telling jokes was his favorite past time. He loved to dance and was always the life of the party. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends and forever remembered for his loving spirit, his energy and good heartedness. George wanted to be remembered as a good person, which he easily achieved. He is survived by his wife Beverly, his children and their spouses, daughter Eileen (Mark) Smith, son George (Debbie) Wilson, son Thomas (Michele) Wilson, step-daughter Andrea (Rick) Shepanski, his sister Grace, seven grandchildren, Jason, Anthony, Kevin, Christian, Kelly, Eric, Jessica, six great grandchildren Tori, Aubrey, Silas, Truett, Maxwell, Kittrick and many nieces and nephews, as well as all of Beverly’s family including Emily and Olivia Maxlowe. Family will receive friends on October 5, 2018 at the United Methodist Church, 139 East 2nd Avenue, North Wildwood, NJ from 10:00am – 11:00am. The service will begin at 11:00am and interment will follow at The Veterans Cemetery in Cape May Court House. In lieu of flowers, monetary contributions may be made to your charity of choice.
