Clara E. Harris

Clara Elizabeth Harris departed this life on April 10, 2018 at the age of ninety-four. The daughter of Ida and Walter “Poosie” Williams, she was born in West Cape May NJ, and was the youngest of six children. Her husband of 67 years, Jake Harris, and her daughter Jacqueline Suggs, preceded her in death. Clara a lifelong resident of West Cape May lived on 4th Avenue her entire life, with the exception of a brief stay in North Jersey and most recently 5 months in Charlotte, NC. For 27 years Clara was the local representative for Avon and she was well known throughout the community. Clara was recognized as a gifted and avid gardener. People loved her warm smile and her kindness. A descendant of two founding members of Allen AME church in Cape May, Clara was a lifelong and active member of the congregation. She is survived by her sister Evelyn Tenbrook, son Robert “Bobby” Harris, daughter Pamela (Doug) Young, grandchildren Antwone (Adelle) Harris, Angela (Truman) Mincy, Bunny (Kevin) Kennedy, Jeremiah Suggs and Ryan (Sarah) Suggs, seven great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren. She also had a special bond with her cousins, nieces and nephews that she loved and cherished very much. Clara will surely be missed by her family and many of her fellow Capers. Clara’s life celebration ceremony will be held on Wednesday (April 18th) at 11am in the First Assembly of God Church, 1068 Seashore Rd., Cape May where there will be a viewing from 10am until 10:50am. Following the ceremony, interment will take place in the Cape May County Veterans Cemetery.
